The mission of our organization is twofold: we want to
preserve the history of our island and share our knowledge with others. To this end, we have collected written records as
well as oral histories that show the early social spirit and development of our community as it evolved from a sparse
barrier island to a popular tourist destination. We have also accumulated a body of photographs and artifacts which show what
life was like on our island in years past. The second part of our
mission is to share our knowledge with others. We strive to expand our reach
by presenting public programs and exhibits that highlight our island’s history.
We work closely with our public schools and universities to share our history with our community. During the winter months our monthly meetings are open to the public. We strive to have stimulating speakers to share their knowledge of our island’s history
